Celtic Tenors Wow Walla Walla!

Matthew, James, Daryl and Colm blew into town just before the snow and wowed Walla Wallans with not just a terrific concert, but a wonderfully entertaining show. From classics like “Danny Boy” and “Shenandoah” to a little Eric Clapton, Air Supply, and opera even, the range of their voices and the musicality of their performance was a rare treat.  Thanks Celtic Tenors!  Come back again!

Don’t know anything about the tenors, check ‘em out here!

Family “Foodraiser” Concert

What a terrific concert. A great crowd, wonderful music, and almost more importantly, 1, 100 pounds of food brought in for local food banks. Thanks to our sponsors: Key Technology, Whitman College, The Walla Walla Union Bulletin, and our great musicians. They even let me play in this concert!

End of the Season

The 3rd annual Mares n Music concert at the WW Fairgrounds was the perfect way to end the 2008-2009 concert season. As the nearly sold-out crowd enjoyed popcorn, hot dogs and soda they were able to partake in a great show of music and horses! Several teams of horses performed drills and patterns with their flashy attire where others performed as a horse/rider duo to show off their hard work and dedication. The music was perfectly choreographed with the riders and gave the audience a sense of home-town American music! Here are a few pictures taken by an audience member. Make sure to put it on your calendar for next year!

Celebration of Music

We had a great fundraiser yesterday! Our annual Celebration of Music luncheon went off without a hitch. The Walla Walla Country Club provided a lovely feast. Jacob Willard, a young bassist, and part of the Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra performed a lovely piece as a great representation of Walla Walla’s youth. Finally Greg Sandow, Wall Street Music Critic, delighted the crowd with his words of inspiration for the love of music. For more information about Greg, please follow the links below.

Why music and the arts matter!

Click here to read what Karl Paulnauck of the Boston Conservatory of Music has to say on the matter. If  you thought math, science, computer engineering and the like were more important than the music, you might think again after reading what he has to say.

Northern Lights…

What a great concert on an absolutely perfect evening! Just loved the Sibelius — the rich gorgeous chords and interesting counterpoint. And Michael Lewin was musically superb (and a really nice guy, too).  Earlier in the day, it was also interesting to hear Michael talk about how the orchestra has improved since he last played in Walla Walla. He said he was blown away by how good it has become. As I listened to Michael and Yaki banter back and forth over coffee the morning before the concert, I was struck by the wonderful legacy of fine musicians who are also friends of the Walla Walla Symphony. Get ready for Tai Murray next month!  Bravo Yaki, Michael, and orchestra!!
